Corriente lenta

Por el río se van mis ojos,
por el río…

Por el río se va mi amor,
por el río…

(Mi corazón va contando
las horas que esta dormido.)

El río trae hojas secas,
el río…

El río es claro y profundo,
el río…

(Mi corazón me pregunta
Si puede cambiar de sitio.)

Federíco García Lorca

This competition looks at the realisation of a monument for a tribute to the defence of the River Ebro, symbolising the fight against its diversion. Leaving behind the political discussions, we have focused our idea on essential element: without a doubt the river itself.
The river will suffer if it is hurt, and will cry if it is harmed. The project abstracts the river as a stream of letters made from stainless steel and supported by slender cylinders of different heights positioned irregularly in its flow. Because of the slenderness of the supports, the letters flutter in the breeze creating a subtle dynamic. Because of the reflective nature of the material proposed, the surface will shine with the sun and will produce reflections in the same way that the surface of the river does. Only when you arrive to the mouth of the river do the letters start making sense, giving the river a voice to speak for itself using the poem ‘ Slow Current’ by Federico Garcia Lorca to describe its feelings.
