The monastery Maria ad Fontes has been sold and has changed its use from being a private complex to become a  public space, provoking a radical change in the future of the city of Ootmarsum. The cloister is positioned in the perimeter of the old town, in a locality that still preserves a great proportion of its original medieval structure. The proposal’s ambition is to reinforce that urban limit, area of defensive ditch, so therefore the new volumes are ordered trying to define this area like a conclusive limit. There is a search for a constant dialogue between the existing settings, so the old and the new form together a spatial unity, to achieve this; a public square is created in the heart of the project as access not just to the complex but also to the centre of the city. The area of intervention in this plan includes the design of a great public park adjacent to the monastery that originally was its private garden. The building is designed for an integral rehabilitation so it works as a hotel, and retail and housing are added as new parts of a whole.
