One of the main principles of architecture is the design of spaces. This definition could also be applied to the disciplines, of urban design landscape architecture and interior design taking into account the change of scale implied in each one of them.
In the design of a project, the site has an essential role as it is the immediate surrounding and each place has its own identity from a historical, social, climatic, functional and spatial point of view. Apart from the site there are other influences to be considered like ecology and economy. Facing this complexity the objective is to find a concept that will resolve all the qualities involved in the development of each project. So therefore the architect, apart from working with the design, has the mission of coordinating efficiently the process and to find the optimum solution for all the fields involved.
KAW has since its beginnings in 1976 chosen to work with a creative multi-disciplinary team where all the aspects mentioned back up the architecture from the generation of each project. This vision to face the architect’s works in a satisfactory manner has been noted to assist the growth of the office. At present a total of 100 professionals (architects, sociologist, urban designers, managers and technicians) form the three Dutch offices in Groningen, Rotterdam and Nijmegen.
In 2006 KAW arquitectura established its first office abroad in Barcelona. Based on the ideals of the Dutch office model, the client and the specialists are included from the outset at the beginning and in the development of each project. The collaboration with our Dutch partners allows flexibility in the wide spectrum that we work on with urban design projects, landscape architecture, architecture and interior design.
